ELECTROHOME—Celebrating 100 Years of Canadian Heritage

In 1907, Arthur Bell (A.B.) Pollock started making Canada’s first hornless phonograph in the small town of Berlin, (later named Kitchener) located in south western Ontario. It was the start of the Electrohome Corporation, a world leader in the manufacture of home entertainment equipment and television broadcasting. Electrohome quickly became a household name across Canada and later the world as a manufacturer of advanced electronic products.

By the early sixties, Electrohome had become one of Canada's largest manufacturers of television sets and over the following decades, Electrohome had grown its manufacturing facilities to include home entertainment products, fine furniture, household appliances and a host of other industrial products, sold in Canada and exported around the world.

Today, the Canadian icon represents a legacy of affordable quality, feature-rich electronics products consumers can trust. Electrohome continues to reflect the changing world of electronics with new technologies including high definition flat panel televisions, home theatre systems, DVD players, portable DVD players and MP3 compatible (Made for iPod) players to name a few.
To commemorate Electrohome’s anniversary, an exhibit will be held at the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery, 101 Queen Street North, Kitchener, Ontario. The Electrohome Exhibit starts Friday, May 18 and runs through to Wednesday, June 27, 2007. The exhibit will provide a journey into the past, showcasing Electrohome technologies, products and memorabilia from the past 100 years.
